Wellness

At Vilonia Animal Clinic, we believe in preventative care. Just as humans should visit their doctor regularly for wellness visits, so should your pet. Wellness visits allow the doctors to perform full physical and dental exams and perform routine testing and administer appropriate vaccines. It is also a time to discuss your pet’s diet, lifestyle changes, behavior changes or issues, and discuss routine medications and supplements and help determine if adjustments are necessary.

    Medical Services

    Ultrasound

Ultrasounds are a safe, non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique that uses sound waves to examine your pet’s internal organs. The ultrasound is used to monitor pregnancy, in urine collection, bladder stone detection and in conjunction with radiographs when evaluating the chest and abdomen.

    Digital Radiology (X-Ray)

Vilonia Animal Clinic uses our in-house digital radiography system as a primary, non-invasive tool to evaluate your pet’s bones and organs. X-Rays are useful in diagnosing:

  • Fractures
  • Dislocated Joints
  • Pregnancy
  • Foreign Object Ingestion/Obstruction
  • Impaction
  • Pneumonia
  • Heart Disease
  • Mass(es) in Abdomen or chest

  • Why does my dog need to be sedated for OFA or PennHIP radiographs?

Sedation allows for the best patient positioning with minimal repeat radiographs (less radiation exposure) and the best representation of the hip status.

Low-Level Laser & LED Light Therapy

Low-level lasers and LEDs produce a harmless, soothing laser beam of light that when used properly, can stimulate healing, resolve inflammation, and reduce pain. This therapy can treat:

  • Osteoarthritis & Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Muscle, Tendon, & Ligament Injuries
  • Wound Healing
  • Eye Injuries
  • Chronic Renal Disease
  • Other Medical Issues Involving
  • Inflammation & Pain
  • Dental Care

Proper Dental care and treatment are vital to your pets long-term health. Did you know that periodontal disease affects over 75% of dogs and cats over the age of three?

When left untreated, this can lead to:
    • Halitosis (Bad Breath)
    • Pain
    • Tooth Decay or Loss
    • Metabolic Disease (kidney & Liver Problems)

Good oral health can add years to your pet’s life and will improve their overall quality of life. All of our dental cleanings include ultrasonic scaling, high-speed polishing, and barrier sealant. We also have the tools and experience to perform extractions and more advanced oral surgery if needed.

At what age should my dog have the first dental cleaning?

It depends on the dog’s genetics. Some dogs will need their first cleaning around the age of 3 years. Other dogs may start much later. It is important to have their teeth examined annually.
